Using Heat Pumps to Improve the Efficiency of Combined-Cycle Gas Turbines

This paper studies the integration of heat pump units (HPUs) to enhance thermal efficiency a combined and power plant (CHPP). Different solutions integrate HPUs in combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant, CCGT-450, are analyzed based on simulations developed “United Cycle” computer-aided design (CAD) system. The used explore low-potential sources (LPHSs) make-up return network water. use regulate (GT) intake air temperature during summer operation possibility using HPU GT replace anti-icing system (AIS), over winter at high humidity conditions were also analyzed. best solution was obtained for mode replacing AIS by HPU. simulation results indicated that this scheme can reduce underproduction electricity generation CCGT unit up 14.87% overall from 40.00% 44.82%. Using with 5.04 MW capacity save $309,640 per each quarter.
